DR. SHIMIZU:
Kenneth Shimizu, MD, MPH was born in Los Angeles, California. While growing up, his family moved to several different cities, including Poughkeepsie, New York, Tokyo, Sherborn, Massachusetts, before settling in Orange County. He eventually settled into UCLA. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in 1982 and his Masters of Public Health in 1984 from UCLA. In 1988, Dr. Shimizu earned his Medical Degree from the UCLA School of Medicine. He went onto his internship in Medicine at the UCLA San Fernando Valley Program and, in 1993, completed his residency at the UCLA Department of Radiation Oncology. In his practice, he has developed a special interest in Prostate Cancer, Breast Cancer and Brain Tumors. He is involved with many special procedure programs, including prostate brachytherapy (seed implantation), partial breast irradiation (Mammosite) and Gamma Knife treatments for brain tumor patients.
Academic affiliations included being a member of the Admissions Committee for UCLA School of Medicine 1989-1993, Medical Student Workshop for Radiation Oncology 1990-1993, Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCSD School of Medicine Department of Radiation Therapy 1993-2006, and visiting lecturer UCLA School of Dentistry. He also maintains his academic responsibilities as the Radiation Oncology Representative for the San Diego Radiological Society where he is charged with organizing educational conferences.
Current hospital affiliations include Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Palomar Medical Center, and Tri-City Medical Center.
Dr. Shimizu is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology.
